Is Fat Shrinking Signal by certified fitness trainer Derek Wahler worth a shot or not? In this review, I’m going to tell you the facts about this weight loss program, and why I still have serious doubts about its effectiveness despite it NOT being a scam. So be sure to read this review carefully, as it is one of the very few critical reviews of this product that you’ll ever find online.
Created in 2013, Fat Shrinking Signal (aka 29 Day Flat Stomach Formula, 10 Minute Fat Loss) claims to be the product that will ‘turn off your hidden hormonal disorder’ that keeps you from losing weight. At the same time, the program will then ‘activate your belly shrinking signal’ that ‘strips away ugly fat in just 10 minutes.’ Well we’ll talk about that in a minute but first, let’s find out who the author is, shall we?
Who is Derek Wahler?
According to his LinkedIn profile and the Fat Shrinking Signal pitch page, Derek Wahler is a Certified Turbulence Trainer, a certification he apparently got under the tutelage of Turbulence Training creator Craig Ballantyne. He also calls himself a certified personal trainer, fat loss specialist and a public speaker.
Unlike Ballantyne, Wahler does not have a university degree in health sciences. Prior to his becoming a fitness trainer, Wahler worked for 8 years and 8 months as a business analyst for two big tech companies, a job that made him ‘miserable.’ All that changed after he met Ballantyne, who mentored him into becoming a fitness trainer. Wahler is currently part of Ballantyne’s team at Early To Rise. He also owns and operates a fitness boot camp in Michigan.
Bottom line: Fat Shrinking Signal is created by a fitness protege (which is NOT a bad thing).
Basis of Fat Shrinking Signal
Fat Shrinking Signal is based on the fact that leptin resistance is the reason why you can’t lose weight. For those that do not know, leptin is the hormone that controls your appetite. Leptin, a hormone secreted by fat cells, works by signalling the brain to stop stimulating hunger and start burning energy. If this signal pathway is blocked for some reason, the brain will mistakenly think that the body is starving and so will continue stimulating hunger and insatiety, which then leads to overeating and, in the long run, massive weight gain.
An increased leptin level in blood is NOT a good thing, as it indicates that there is too much fat in the body. It has also been shown to worsen leptin resistance. [AuthorityNutrition]
Wahler claims his program works by unblocking leptin’s signal pathway to the brain (the ‘fat burning signal’) using simple exercise movements that will not take you more than 10 minutes a day to complete. But this leads to a very important question:
Is Exercise The Best Way of Reversing Leptin Resistance?
Studies have shown that exercise plays an important role in reversing leptin resistance. However, it is basically useless to exercise if you don’t accompany it with diet. This is because diet, NOT exercise, is the main way of reversing leptin resistance [Mercola.com].
The main role of exercise in reversing leptin resistance is to boost the effect of diet and nothing more. See it as an ‘extra’ that you can actually do without and still gain the result you need. In fact, studies have shown that exercise in itself does NOT have any effect on leptin levels. However, fat loss lowers leptin levels (this is expected, since fat cells produce leptin in the first place). But this does NOT mean that lowering leptin levels in the body corrects the root cause of leptin resistance – CHRONIC INFLAMMATION.
Now since Derek Wahler claims that his program reverses leptin resistance, I expected him to emphasize more on diet than exercise. Unfortunately, he didn’t. Instead, he goes on to blast ‘the diet company creeps’ for making people like you ‘to waste thousands of dollars on their horrible meals and programs.’
Bottom Line: Losing weight through exercise alone will lower leptin levels, but will NOT reverse the root cause of leptin resistance. This means that you’ll eventually REGAIN the lost weight in the long run.

If you purchase the program, all you’ll receive is a series of workout videos you can easily download. There are no PDF files to download (I didn’t find any.)
Speaking of the workouts, I must admit that they are really good. However, be warned that the workout routine contained in the program is not as simple as the pitch page will make you believe. This is because they are of high intensity. In fact, most of the workout routine involves you doing up to five different exercises multiple times in 10 minutes with very little breaks in between. None of the exercises require the use of workout equipment, so you don’t need to do them in the gym.
Unfortunately, Wahler did not provide any diet recommendations.

1. Scammy Advertising
Derek Wahler’s Fat Burning Signal is riddled with scammy advertising. Although they are not as glaring as the scams regularly exposed here on Contra Health Scam, they are nevertheless significant. For example, did you notice the way he used the names of celebs (Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez) to make his product look appealing? That is a common trick used by scammers to especially target young people who have body constitution insecurities.
Other scammy advertising evidence include
- Pressure Tactic used in Pricing. After slashing the initial $45 price to just $15, Wahler spends the rest of the presentation trying to force you into believing that the discount is ‘not guaranteed past today.’ That’s not true. That statement has been there ever since I first got to know about his product back in September.
- Pop-ups. When you decide to leave the site, a pop-up prevents that from happening. Then you are offered to try it at $5 for 14 days. After the 14-day trial period has elapsed, then you’ll be billed the remaining $10.
2. Insults the Medical Profession
While telling us the story of Ashley’s battle with stubborn fat, Wahler alleged that her doctor failed to tell her that she was suffering from leptin resistance. Then he went on to make this statement:
Now while it is perfectly okay for patients to dislike their doctors’ recommendations, the allegation that doctors prescribe drugs to line their own pockets is not true, is uncalled for and is an insult to the medical profession. Yes, there are bad eggs in every industry, but Wahler by his statement, made it seem that what he described above is the norm in healthcare. That’s wrong and should be condemned.
Doctors are human and so can miss certain hidden disease signs (like leptin resistance) from time to time. That doesn’t make them bad people, okay?
3. Contains NO Diet Recommendations
For you to overcome leptin resistance, you MUST modify your diet. Exercise is just an added bonus.
Now despite the fact that Fat Shrinking Signal is all about reversing leptin resistance, Wahler does not add any diet recommendations to his program. That’s unfortunate because without proper diet, you’ll never reverse the root cause of your leptin issue. This means that you’ll most likely regain all lost weight if you complete his program without changing your food habits.

If you are looking for a series of weight loss workouts you can do at home to keep you fit or shed a few pounds of fat, then this program is excellent for that. But if you have leptin resistance, then this program will be of little or no help to you.
