Is Resurge supplement by John Barban a legit product or a scam? This product claims to have the ‘breakthrough’ that addresses the ‘root cause of excess belly fat, unwanted weight gain, premature aging, and disease’. Well in this review we are going to analyze all the claims and determine whether it’s a good idea for you to spend your money on it. There are a lot of fake reviews out there shilling for this supplement but this isn’t one of them. This is a no-holds-barred, honest review that will tell you all the facts. So let’s begin!
Resurge was launched in January 2020. It claims to be ‘the world’s first and only clinically proven natural anti-aging and fat-burning solution’ that ‘cures’ the ‘root cause’ of ‘unexplained weight gain, stubborn belly fat, and metabolic slowdown.’ According to Barban, ‘there has not been anything like Resurge in the history of health.’ All you have to do is pop a capsule of Resurge before bedtime … and your body will start shedding its own excess fat ‘while you sleep.’ You don’t need to adjust your diet or do any exercise while using Resurge.
John Barban claims that he used Resurge to lose 59 pounds in ‘just weeks.’ His sister Lisa also supposedly used the supplement to drop 53 pounds of fat and lose 12 dress sizes in ‘just weeks.’ Barban keeps on hyping his supplement, claiming that it was a ‘shocking discovery’ that humbled medical doctors and university researchers.
Now before we go any further, let’s find out who this John Barban is, shall we?
Who is John Barban?
John Barban says in the video presentation that he’s recognized as a ‘world-leading expert in metabolism and weight loss’. He even claims that ‘if you’ve taken any effective supplement by any of the world’s biggest brands in the last ten years, you’ve seen my work!’
Wow this guy is full of himself, isn’t he?
Anyway, info from his website indicates that he graduated from the University of Guelph, Ontario with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in human biology and nutrition. He then taught exercise physiology at the University of Florida, where he served as a training coach for the university’s football team.
Barban also holds several fitness certifications and is the author of several popular fitness and weight loss programs. He’s best known as the creator of Venus Factor and Adonis Golden Ratio.
Bottom Line: John Barban is a real person who’s qualified to give advice on fitness and nutrition. However, please note that Resurge is based on a health specialty that is beyond Barban’s qualifications. This becomes apparent from the backstory of Resurge.
Backstory of Resurge
Barban tells us a sob story about how he almost worked and dieted himself to death all because he started gaining weight once he turned 40. He claims that he did it all to lose weight: exercise, calorie counting, keto, fasting … to no avail. This made him feel like a failure given his qualifications (he’s supposed to be a weight loss ‘expert’, remember?), so he quit his job and moved to a different, secluded location. There he sank into a period of depression, fueled by prescription drugs and lack of sleep. But wait … he has just stumbled upon the solution!
He had already done his research (he’s an ‘expert’, remember?), and now he realizes that he needs to fix his sleep deprivation. This is because lack of sleep has been fingered as the cause of many disease conditions, including weight gain.
Barban eventually contacted his ‘celebrity friend’, who got him an appointment with his ‘$10,000 an hour sleep specialist.’ Seven days later, the specialist informs him that he was suffering from ‘one of the worst cases of Shallow Sleep Syndrome I’ve ever seen.’ Basically, he wasn’t getting enough ‘deep sleep’ that his body needs to function properly. The ‘specialist’ goes on to claim that the number of hours you sleep is ‘meaningless’, and only ‘deep sleep’ is important since the body’s organs and systems require it to regenerate themselves and function optimally. Deep sleep, according to the ‘specialist’ determines
- How fast you age
- Difficulty in losing weight
- Your appearance
- Your memory
- How well your immune system functions
After lecturing him on what causes lack of deep sleep (see next section), the ‘specialist’ hands Barban a list of ingredients and instructions, telling him to take them once a day for 7 days. He also gave him a sleep-tracking device for monitoring.
Barban then goes home, takes the ingredients as instructed, and goes to sleep. The very next day, he had already lost 2 pounds. 7 days later, he had already lost 11 pounds. All without changing his diet or exercise. Then ‘weeks’ later, 59 pounds was gone from his body.
He then gave the protocol to his equally-plagued sister Lisa, who lost 53 pounds and 12 dress sizes in ‘weeks’. Also, ‘a slew of celebrities’ also used his protocol to lose weight. Now he wants to give the common man his protocol. But oh…gathering these ingredients in their best quality is difficult and expensive. Let’s make it very easy for them!
Enter some ‘FDA-approved facility.’ And Resurge is born. Now you don’t need to go on an endless, difficult hunt for the ingredients. Just pop a capsule of Resurge every night and you’re good to go!
Science Behind Resurge
John’s ‘sleep specialist’ claims that during deep sleep, the body undergoes what he calls ‘metabolic regeneration’. According to him, this is where anything good you can think of starts happening to your body. Cells are repaired, the brain is repaired, etc. But most importantly, deep sleep releases what Barban calls the body’s most important, ‘miraculous’ fat burning hormone ‘that is widely considered to be the “fountain of youth” by anti-aging doctors and celebrities.’ This hormone eliminates aging by supposedly ‘varnishing’:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Age spots
- Dark circles
- Bags under eyes
This hormone also
- ‘restores firmness and elasticity to the skin’
- Renews the texture and natural color of hair
- Restores kid-like energy
- Revives libido
- Enhances vision
- Strengthens and tones lean muscle
- ‘Automatically melts body fat’
- Turbo-boosts metabolism
What’s this hormone? Drumroll …
It’s growth hormone.
Oh.
Anyway, Barban continues, claiming that lack of deep sleep causes less release of growth hormone, which results in the opposite of all the benefits we listed above. But the worst problem is that lack of deep sleep releases the stress hormone cortisol which, according to Barban, converts any food you eat into ‘visceral fat’ and stores it in your abdomen. This then leads to increased belly fat and damage to organs, etc. On top of all that, lack of deep sleep also reduces your fat-burning hormone leptin and increases your hunger hormone ghrelin. Barban goes on to claim that even if you regularly sleep well for 7-8 hours a day, it still doesn’t mean that you’re getting enough ‘deep sleep’ required to ‘truly rebuild health and restore metabolism.’
Barban goes on to list the two main causes of lack of deep sleep, aka Shallow Sleep Syndrome:
- Age
- Modern stress and technology, particularly from ‘Blue Light’ emanating from the screens of smartphones, tablets, televisions, and computers we routinely use. This one, says Barban is by far the most dangerous enemy of deep sleep.
Barban admits that there’s nothing we can do about the age factor, but we can surely do something about the blue light from tech. This is where Resurge comes in. In fact, Barban claims that using Resurge in a ‘2-minute ritual’ reversed the effects of aging so much that it ‘sent world-renowned anti-aging doctors to stars and university research departments across the US into humbling states of disbelief.’
So how does it work?
How Resurge Works
Resurge supposedly works by ‘normalizing your deep sleep cycles’. Barban doesn’t explain how the supplement actually does this, apart from telling us that it contains ingredients that have been proven to improve deep sleep. All you have to do is to pop a capsule of Resurge every night before going to bed. However, he says that you need to take Resurge consistently ‘for 90-100 days’ in order to ‘guarantee impactful, life-changing results.’
According to Barban, Resurge is ‘100% natural’, vegetarian non-GMO, and made in an FDA and GMP-certified facility. He also claims that the supplement is ‘clinically proven’ to have ‘zero side effects.’
Ingredients of Resurge
The ingredients of Resurge include
- 10mg Melatonin
- 150mg Ashwagandha plant
- 100mg Hydroxytryptophan
- 200mg L-Theanine
- 50mg Magnesium
- 15mg zinc
- 1200mg Arginine
- 1200mg Lysine
According to the ‘specialist’, each of these ingredients is good for sleep when taken alone, but work even better when taken together at the same time.
Barban also claims that the last two ingredients (Arginine and Lysine) have been proven to increase growth hormone levels by ‘up to 695%’ during sleep. We’ll see about that.
How Much Does Resurge Cost?
A bottle of Resurge costs $49. Barban offers two other plans:
- A 3-bottle plan for $177
- A 6-bottle plan for $204
A bottle represents a 30-day supply. All the prices exclude shipping and handling costs.
Barban also offers a 60-day money-back guarantee. So if you’re not satisfied with his supplement, you should send him an email at [email protected] for your refund, ‘no questions asked.’
Pros
Why should you buy Resurge?
- The author is real and qualified when it comes to fitness and nutrition.
- The author did a good job using other sources to educate us on some of the causes of bad sleep
Cons
Why should you NOT buy Resurge?
1. Author Recycles Old Testimonial Photos To Sell New Supplement
John Barban claims that he used Resurge to shed 59 pounds ‘in just weeks.’ Then he showed off these before-after photos of himself to prove it:

Unfortunately, the truth is that Barban has been using this particular before-after photo of himself for years. Specifically, he used these photos in his 2012 program Adonis Golden Ratio. He also used them on his personal website – and the most recent article there was published in 2011.
The same thing goes for the before-after photos of his sister Lisa:

The truth is that Barban used these same before-after photos in his 2014 program Venus Factor and Rule Breaker Diet:

I saw the same thing with the other testimonials he used in the Resurge video. All of them were lifted from his older programs.
So what does this mean?
- John Barban and his sister Lisa did NOT use Resurge to lose weight.
- John Barban is lying
- Resurge can’t help you lose weight
2. Makes Various Claims Without Evidence
John Barban made other claims about Resurge that he didn’t bother to prove. For example, he claims that Resurge has been ‘clinically proven’ to have ‘zero side effects.’ Claims like this require some form of a clinical study to prove them and sadly, Barban failed to provide a single independent study to back up his claim.
Barban equally failed to prove his claim that sleeping soundly for 7-8 hours daily does not mean that you’re getting the type of ‘deep sleep’ Resurge will supposedly give you. He also failed to prove the anti-aging effects of his supplement that ‘sent world-renowned anti-aging doctors to stars and university research departments across the US into humbling states of disbelief’. And as we’ve seen already, he failed woefully to prove that Resurge helped him and his sister lose weight.
All he did was hype his product without providing any credible evidence to back it up.
3. Makes False Claims About Ingredients Arginine and Lysine
According to Barban, Arginine and Lysine are the two most important ingredients in his Resurge supplement, as they have been proven to increase growth hormone levels by ‘up to 695%’ during sleep. However, the list of references he provided didn’t include any scientific study to prove his claims.
My research, on the other hand, proved that his claim is not true. According to this study, taking arginine and lysine by mouth does NOT increase growth hormone production in old men. Other studies done on other demographics yielded mixed results at best.
From New Hope Network:
In competitive weightlifters, 1g each of L-arginine, L-ornithine and L-lysine taken once after lunch and again after dinner did not affect GH levels. In another study, 1,500mg L-arginine and 1,500mg L-lysine stimulated an increase in GH release at rest. In these 16 weight-trained men, the same mixture did not further increase the elevations in GH due to exercise. Other low-dose studies using branched-chain amino acids also found no effect on GH release. In contrast, 20g glutamate arginine salts increased GH and lowered cortisol in highly trained cyclists.
As you can see, the claim that arginine and lysine increase growth hormone levels ‘by 695%’ is outright false. Actual scientific studies don’t support this.
Barban is not alone when it comes to assigning ridiculous percentages to growth hormone production and then attributing the feat to their products/programs. Shaun Hadsall did the same thing while marketing his program Over 40 Hormone Reset Diet.
Final Conclusion: DON’T BUY Resurge Supplement. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Unapproved Website: Resurge.com
As you can see, Barban went beyond his professional boundaries when it came to this supplement. He’s no medical doctor or sleep specialist, that’s why he had to claim that his ‘$10,000 an hour’ sleep specialist recommended by his ‘celebrity friends’ gave him the ingredients that he put in Resurge. That’s a bunch of nonsense and you should not fall for it!
However, I’ll stop short of calling it a scam for now. That will depend on feedback I’ll get from those who used this product, as well as other factors that may develop behind the scenes.
