Sono Shots is a CBD-based sleep aid that is owned by Sono Group LLC, a company based in Miami, Florida. It claims to be the supplement that will finally end your sleeping woes. According to the information on their website, Sono Shots is designed to help you relax so that you can sleep better and for longer hours. It claims to be ‘a holistic, natural product that calms the mind, relaxes the body, and enhances sleep.’ They also add that their supplement helps to ‘boost well-being, strengthen the immune system, and reduce stress.’

Sono Shots is available in two flavors: Green apple and strawberry. According to the manufacturer, it has very low calories (just 25 calories) and contains no sugars, artificial sweeteners, or preservatives.

Who Needs to Use Sono Shots?

According to the manufacturer, you need Sono Shots if you:

  1. ‘Can’t get to sleep’
  2. Can’t function properly without caffeine before noon
  3. ‘Often wake up during the night’
  4. ‘Need to set up an alarm everyday to wake up’

From the look of things, Sono Shots is targeting working-class people, busy parents, and university students who barely get up to 4 hours of sleep per day.

Science Behind Sono Shots

Sono Shots begins by telling us that there are ‘3 Pillars of Life’:

  1. Sleep
  2. Food
  3. Connected relationships

Next, the company introduces us to the term ‘sleep paradox,’ which they use to describe the belief by hard-working people that sacrificing their sleep helps them be more productive. On the contrary, argues Sono Shots, not sleeping well leads to less productivity, increased stress, and diminishes your mental, physical and emotional health. In addition, lack of sleep ultimately leads to strained relationships with family, friends work colleagues, which eventually spirals into a vicious cycle of physical and mental health issues.

Sono Shots, however, is an ‘innovative sleeping supplement’ which is here to help you renew your mental and physical health … and one of the first steps towards achieving that goal is to improve your sleep. So let’s talk about the ingredients in it, shall we?

Ingredients of Sono Shots

sono shots nutrition facts

The active ingredients of Sono Shots sleep supplement include:

1. Hemp Extract CBD

Sono Shots is based on hemp extract. According to the manufacturer, hemp ‘calms the mind’ and ‘elevates mood.’ This claim is pretty much confirmed by this randomized controlled trial study which concluded that cannabinoids (CBD) in hemp extract ‘tended to support psychometric measures of perceived sleep, stress response, and perceived life pleasure and was well tolerated with no clinically relevant safety concerns.’

Hemp extract has been shown to have other health benefits. According to WebMD, hemp has been shown to be beneficial when it comes to treating skin conditions, inflammation, and childhood seizures.

Hemp is a type of cannabis plant which belongs to the marijuana family. However, unlike marijuana, hemp contains little to no THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) – the substance responsible for the classic marijuana intoxication. Therefore, the consumption of hemp in the US is legal and will not cause you to become addicted.

From the Certificate of Analysis published by the manufacturer, we can see that Sono Shots has 0.24% of active THC and 4.45% active CBD. To put things into perspective, marijuana being sold in dispensaries contains up to 17-28% of THC and a paltry 0.09–0.2% of CBD. [NCBI]

2. Chamomile

Chamomile is a flower that is popularly consumed as tea. According to Sono Shots, chamomile ‘relaxes the body’ and ‘promotes peacefulness.’ This claim is pretty much confirmed by this study which concludes that chamomile ‘appears to be efficacious and safe for sleep quality and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder).’

3. Passion Flower

Passionflower is a vine that is traditionally used as sleep medicine in parts of the USA and Central America. Studies have shown that it is just as effective in treating anxiety as some anxiety drugs [WebMD]. This study adds that passion flower in the form of tea ‘yields short-term subjective sleep benefits for healthy adults with mild fluctuations in sleep quality.’

According to Sono Shots, passion flower ‘reduces stress’ and ‘eases discomfort.’

4. Melatonin

Melatonin is known as the ‘sleep hormone.’ It is the hormone responsible for regulating your circadian rhythm of sleep. Natural production of melatonin increases at night and decreases in the presence of light. Its production also decreases with age.

Sono Shots has 3mg of melatonin per serving. There is no recommended dose, but it is well within the accepted ‘safe and effective’ range for adults.

5. GABA

GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid. It is a substance that is best known as a natural neurotransmitter in the brain. According to Sono Shots, GABA ‘quiets thought’ and ‘enhances sleep.’ This is most probably because GABA blocks nerve signals in the brain, reducing brain activity and inducing sleep in the process.

How to Use Sono Shots?

The manufacturer recommends taking one shot at night as part of your normal bedtime routine. Taking more than one shot is not recommended.

The manufacturer also recommends refrigerating the supplement once opened.

Who Should NOT Use Sono Shots?

Sono Shots is for adult use only. So don’t give this product to children. If you’re pregnant, a nursing mother, or under medication, the manufacturer recommends consulting your doctor first to give you an all-clear before using their product.

Are There Any Side Effects?

The manufacturer of Sono Shots did not report any side effects of their product. However, you should watch out for stomach upset and diarrhea, which are possible side effects of consuming products containing hemp extract. However, please take note that hemp does NOT cause intoxication or addiction like marijuana.

How Much Does it Cost?

A standard pack of Sono sleep shots (6 shots) costs $20.99. You have an option of buying a pack containing 12 shots at $39.99 though. There is no auto-shipping or subscriptions.

The manufacturer also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. So if you are not satisfied with the product, just contact them via their support email address. Please note that you must return the unopened bottles in order to get your refund.

Pros

  1. The company, though relatively new, isn’t shady.
  2. Contains ingredients that are well-known for promoting sleep
  3. No scammy advertising
  4. Relatively affordable
  5. Presence of moneyback guarantee.
